How to Tell if You Need Professional Help to Get Rid of Bees

Bees are important pollinators. Without bees, over one-third of the crops we grow would fail. So, we should do our best to protect bees.

However, bees can become a nuisance to humans when they take up residence in inconvenient locations, such as inside walls or on playground equipment. If you have a problem bee situation, here is how to tell if you need professional help to get rid of bees.

Danger of Bees

When dealing with bees, the first crucial step is to consider the threat they pose to humans and other animals. While honey bees aren’t usually aggressive unless they sense a threat, bee stings can be dangerous.

If someone in your household is allergic to bee stings, take steps to keep them safe. Even without an allergy, though, stings from many bees at once can do serious harm and can even kill.

Africanized Honey Bees

Africanized honey bees are hybrids of European honey bees and East African honey bees. The hybrid bees are slightly smaller and much more aggressive.

Africanized honey bees attack in swarms and have killed humans and other large animals. Because they live in smaller colonies than European honey bees, Africanized bees can build hives in just about anything and will defend their home ruthlessly.

If you suspect you have a hive of Africanized bees on your property, contact professionals to remove them. Never attempt to get rid of Africanized honey bees yourself, especially if you have a history of allergic reactions to bee stings.

Location

Even if the bees you’re dealing with are docile and there’s no one in the household who is allergic to them, you may still need to call in professionals if the hive is in the wrong place. Beehives, whether in nature or bee boxes, are unlikely to do harm unless provoked and should be left alone. However, if a hive is in a location that sees frequent foot traffic or is inside a building, it will need to be relocated.

Bee relocation should only be attempted by professionals. Never try to destroy or move a bee colony on your own, as it can be dangerous. If you have bees living in your home, outbuildings or another occupied area, call Worldwide Pest Control immediately and get a free quote.
